Gay Lover Stabs Lagos Banker To Death
Posted on 07:57 by ranjeet
The house where the incident took place
A Lagos banker was murdered in his home at Akoka, Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos State after his gay lover felt jilted when he decided to marry a woman, reports claim.
The Lagos State Police Command have started investigation into the murder of Adindu Ohamara, who was stabbed repeatedly to death by someone most suspect to be a heart-broken gay lover who had come home with him that night to resolved an earlier fight after the banker got engaged to a woman due to family pressure.
A neighbour who asked to be anonymous told reporters that:
“A few weeks ago, Ohamara did his wedding introduction and shortly after that, one man came to the compound to fight him. There was a lot of noise over the issue and even neighbours had to come to settle the matter.
“The unidentified man complained that he had been jilted and threatened to deal with Ohamara before he left in anger.”
According to reports, a domestic worker in the house (which Ohamara shared with his elder sister, Flora and one Collins, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos), said he saw the suspect take off with a laptop at midnight.
“It was a Friday evening. Ohamara came home with the man and they went inside. I went to sleep but at midnight, I saw the man carrying a laptop and then he opened the gate and left. He did not run so I was not suspicious,” he said.
“Around 4am, Collins and Flora started shouting for help. A neighbour came to help them and they took him into his Toyota Camry and drove to a hospital.”
Ohamara was reportedly rushed to Jonken Hospital but was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital Idi Araba where he was pronounced dead.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Ohamara, who was believed to be a homosexual, was fond of bringing different men, who were also believed to be into same sex relationship, to his home.
Our correspondent learnt that on April 9, 2013, the banker returned home with a man, who allegedly stabbed him at midnight and left.
According to police sources, hours before the incident, Collins went to Oharama’s room where he met the stranger sitting on Oharama’s bed, discussing with him.
The matter, it was learnt, was reported at the Sabo Police Division but was later referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
Our correspondent, who visited the house on Monday, learnt that the police later arrested all the adult occupants of the building, including the security guard identified only as Kazeem.
The policemen allegedly demanded N350,000 from each of the detained persons before they could be released.
The landlord of the property, Yemi Oketola, said the deceased had issued him two post-dated cheques as payment for his rent.
Oketola on hearing of the arrest of his other tenants, visited the SCID and appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Damilola Adegbuyi, for their release.
He said, “I do not live in the house but immediately I got wind of the incident, I went to the SCID and I met with the DCP in charge. I complained that a neighbour, who took Ohamara to the hospital ,was arrested. The DCP promised that my tenants would be released.
“When I went to see the Investigating Police Officer, he informed me that the cost of bailing each person was N350, 000. I called the DCP and he was very angry when he heard about the demand. He said he would make sure that the tenants were released.”
When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the murder.
Braide however said she could not confirm if the deceased was a homosexual or not.
She said, “According to information I got at the SCID Homicide unit, there are only two suspects in custody, the deceased’s sister (Flora) and the UNILAG student (Collins). I am not aware of any other arrests.
“Also, I am not aware of any N350, 000 bail because bail is free. Investigations are ongoing and we will get to the bottom of it.”

NEWS : Man jailed 45 years for stealing Aregbesola’s phone
Posted on 00:37 by ranjeet
For stealing a N50,000 Sony Ericsson phone belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a 31-year-old Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45-year imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court.
Ighodalo stole the phone from the pocket of Aregbesola on November 27, 2010, when the governor was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.
Justice Oyejide Falola, who heard the case, found Ighodalo guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
He was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for the first three counts and five years for each of the last three which included impersonation, obtaining property by falsehood and collusion.
Falola, who ruled that Ighodalo deserved the jail term, held that the convict used the phone to obtain N500, 000 from the Owa of Ilesa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, while he obtained N200, 000 from Mr Shengen Rahman, an associate of the governor.
The jail term, which Falola pronounced will run concurrently, means that Ighodalo will spend the next 10 years behind bars.
Assistant principal state counsel, Mr Biodun Badiora, told the court that the convict had served six-year imprisonment in Ikoyi prison custody in connection with a murder case in 2005.
Counsel to Ighodalo, Mr. Ameachi Ngwu, prayed the court to commit him to community service, stressing that the convict should not be incarcerated but rather be placed where people could see him as a convict.

HORROR: Indian stuntman dies during world record bid to cross river on a zip-wire attached only by his HAIR
Posted on 06:51 by ranjeet
A stuntman died yesterday during a world record attempt as he tried to cross a river on a zip-wire attached only to his hair.
Sailendra Nath Roy, 50, was half way through the stunt when his ponytail became stuck in the wheeler of the rope and he was left hanging in mid-air for about 25 minutes.
Despite desperate attempts to free himself, it is believed Mr Roy then suffered a major cardiac arrest and died.
Mr Roy, a West Bengal Police home guard, already held the Guinness world record for the farthest distance travelled on a zip wire using his hair.
About 1,000 people turned out to see him try and break the record over the Teesta River in Darjeeling, which is almost 10,000ft above sea level, when the freak accident happened.
Horror: A crowd of around 1,000 saw Mr Roy die as he attempted his stunt over the Teesta River in
However, local media said he then suffered a massive cardiac arrest.
Rescuers brought him down from the Coronation Bridge about 45 minutes later.
He was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Onlookers said spectators had initially failed to realise Mr Roy was in trouble because of the cheers coming from the crowd.
The stuntman had held several Guinness world records for pulling vehicles with his hair.
He attracted global attention last year when he dragged a 42-tonne train for 2.5metres.
In 2011, he travelled 270ft on a zip wire, which he was attached to by his hair.
Siliguri police commissioner K. Jairaman said Roy had not acquired the necessary permission for the stunt, adding that Roy was not on duty at the time of his death.

Kenny Ogungbe, Okoroji exchange hot words at Entertainment Confab
Posted on 04:37 by ranjeet
The Nigerian Entertainment Conference held over the weekend at the Grand ball room of the Eko Hotel and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos was nearly marred by violent exchange of words between Kennis Music Boss Mr. Kenny Ogungbe and Chairman of Copyright Society of Nigeria COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji.
Chief Tony Okoroji had confronted Kenny Ogungbe in the presence of journalists for daring to say in public that COSON owed him (Kenny Ogungbe) money.
“How could he say such a thing? And in public?” Chief Okorogie fumed.
Kenny Ogungbe on his part remained resilient, insisting he would stand by his words. They exchanged hot, abusive words impossible to publish including the F word as they were pulled apart by concerned friends who feared the brawl may soon go physical.
Kenny Ogungbe went on to say “After now, if anything happens to me, it is on your head”
The incident happened immediately after the first session of the conference where Mr. Kenny Ogungbe had been amongst a panel of discussants along side Cool DJ Jimmy Jat, Sound Sultan, MI and Weird MC during which pertinent industry issues had been raised.
The panel before taking questions from participants discussed “Looking at the music scene through the eyes of talents, labels, investors, consumers, regulatory bodies. The role of an artiste in the digital age and lastly, surviving in a peculiar industry like Nigeria.
However Weird MC in her opening had raised questions on the “exploitation of our works”. She noted that the music industry is no longer about just entertainment but a business that should be accounted for. She claimed that music properties of artistes were being exploited with no form of payments made as settlements.
Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) is Nigeria’s sole government approved collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings. Weird MC specifically asked the society if they had any kind of international affiliations with international music copyright regulatory bodies to help check the exploitation of works put out by Nigerian artistes.
According to her “We need to address the International Affiliations involved cause this is a business.
Kenny Ogungbe had stepped out after the panel to re-emphasis these statements made by Weird MC to reporters before making the comments that infuriated Chief Okoroji.
After the heated argument, both were too angry to speak further on the testy issue.

Thieves Jailed After Flaunting Money And Posing With Stolen Cars On Facebook
Posted on 12:02 by ranjeet
A gang who stole a fleet of expensive, high-performance cars from some of London’s wealthiest residents were caught out after posting pictures on Facebook, including one showing a member eating a ‘cash’ sandwich.
The eight men stole nine cars - including BMWs, Range Rovers, Porsches and a £100,000 Mercedes - as well as jewellery, phones and laptops in 15 separate burglaries.
Detectives finally caught up with the them after one of the gang members posted a picture of himself sat on the bonnet of a stolen black Range Rover on Facebook.
That picture led police to discover a number of other incriminating images on the social network site and on the phones of the group, which showed them boasting about their wealth.
They showed the men sitting in the stolen cars, drinking champagne, wearing Rolex and Cartier watches and posing with huge piles of £20 and £50 notes.
In one of the pictures Conor Murphy, 19, is seen about to take a bite into a hundreds of pounds worth of notes sandwiched between two slices of bread.
Police also found video footage on their phones that showed them racing the cars they’d stolen and bragging about what other motors they had their eye on. Blackberry messages used by the gang to arrange burglaries were also discovered.
Seven of the men pleaded guilty to the burglaries earlier this year. Another man, Rory Mason, 18, denied any involvement in the plot to steal the cars but was found guilty by a jury last month.
Isleworth Crown Court heard how the men focused their attention on houses where valuable cars were kept.
Between April and September last year they broke into homes in Notting Hill, Kensington and Kensal Green and stole nine cars, as well as electrical goods and jewellery.
Mark Paltenghi, prosecuting, said: 'It seems quite plain from looking at the evidence that the principal, but not sole aim, was to target houses where valuable cars were kept. Car keys were stolen from the houses and the cars were driven away.'
Kalan Williams, 20, described as the ‘principal conspirator’, pleaded guilty to 11 of the burglaries. Footage from a police helicopter showing Williams running away from officers and dropping the key to a stolen Land Rover Discovery was used in court.
During their investigation, detectives found a picture taken from Williams’ phone which showed him holding three sets of keys to three vehicles. Two - a BMW and an Audi - were confirmed as having been stolen, while the other was an unknown car.
Another photograph found on Williams’ phone shows him sitting on a Porsche 911, which police later discovered was stolen from a house in Stamford Brook on July 26.
A BMW was stolen from the same house that night and police discovered video footage of Williams, Murphy, Niah George, 18, Akin Ford and Jonathan Oriba, both 20, racing the cars around the streets of west London at high speeds. The men were seen passing a phone between cars as the filmed themselves.
he gang were responsible for stealing a haul of cars worth hundreds of thousands over the space of five months. These included a Porsche 911, Porsche Caymen, Mercedes AMG C63, Land Rover Discovery, two BMW 6 series, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q5 and a VW Golf.
The white Mercedes was believed to be the gang’s ‘trophy car’. Many of the photos seized by police showed the men posing beside the £100,000 high-performance motor.
Even when the car was recovered by police and returned to its owner, the brazen group, who had kept the key, tried again to steal it only to find it had been reprogrammed. Their attempts were caught on CCTV and the owner of the car was seen chasing the thieves away in his boxer shorts.
The men were arrested after a series of dawn raids as part of the intelligence-led Operation Decker. Mason, of north Kensington, denied one count of conspiracy to commit a dwelling house burglary but was found guilty after a week-long trial.
Kalan Williamson, from Chelsea, Conor Murphy, 19, north Kensington, Niah George, 18, from Hammersmith, Jonathan Oriba, 20, from Notting Hill, Akil Ford, 20, from Clapham, Daniel Talbot, 23, from north Kensington and Yassin Imlahi, 19, from Kensington, all pleaded guilty to the same charge.
Kalan Williamson was jailed for four years and eight months, Conor Murphy was handed a four year detention for conspiracy and eight months for dangerous driving. Jonathan Oriba was sentenced to four years detention, while Niah George got three years and 10 months.
Akil Ford, who had 24 previous convictions, got four years detention, while Daniel Talbot was jailed for four years. Yassin Imlahi got three years detention, as did Rory Mason, who was found guilty by a jury after denying his involvement.
'They posted pictures of their loot on Facebook and sent messages to each other using Blackberry Messenger planning their crimes. They were brazen about their crimes but this eventually led to their downfall.
'These were men who were wrapped up in their own world and driven by by greed and the gangster lifestyle. If an opportunity arose, they would go for it. They were going into properties regardless of people being in or not. Since their arrest we have seen a 48 per cent decrease in burglaries in the Kensington area.
'The sentences passed down today show this kind of crime is totally unacceptable.'
