NEWS: CBN cancels the N100 monthly ATM extra fee

Posted on 08:54 by ranjeet

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the cancellation of the N100 monthly Automatic Teller Machine card maintenance fee introduced by some banks recently.

The CBN in a circular titled, ‘Revised guide to bank charges,’ posted on its website, however, pegged the maintenance fee at N100 annually.

It also pegged the mandatory cost of Short Message Service alert at N4 subject to the Nigerian Communication Commission directives.

The circular, which takes effect from April 1, read, “In order to reflect current developments in the market and provide clarity on banking terms, the CBN recently conducted a review of the guide in consultation with all the banks and discount houses, Bankers’ Committee, financial experts and also considered inputs received from other stakeholders to produce the revised guide to bank charges.”

On electronic transfer, the bank said N70 would be charged on transactions below N500,000, while N100 should be charged on transactions between N500,000 and N1m. Transactions above N1m will attract a charge of N500.

It said issuing fee of a debit card should not be more than N1,000, while international withdrawals per transaction on debit cards should be charged at N240 rather than N1,000 being currently charged by virtually all the banks.

The CBN pegged the interest on savings deposit accounts at a minimum of 30 per cent of the Monetary Policy Rate per annum.

The Bankers’ Committee, had during a meeting in November 2012, scrapped the N100 interbank charge on the use of ATM cards.

The Governor, CBN, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, had said customers would no longer pay N100 on ATM withdrawals whenever they use banks other than theirs from December 17, 2012.

Following the scrapping of the N100 withdrawal charges on ATM by the Bankers’ Committee, some banks had recently introduced the N100 monthly maintenance fee on ATM cards.

The development had drawn the ire of bank customers, who complained bitterly that the banks were exploiting them and indirectly taking back the suspended third-party ATM card withdrawal fee.

Also, some banks charge as high as N50 for SMS to alert their customers of transactions on their accounts, far above the N4 that all Global System of Mobile communication providers charge for each text message.

Other arbitrary charges include N500 monthly maintenance fee for every current account, depending on the bank; and N5 inter-state commission for every N1,000 transferred into or withdrawn from savings accounts in a state different from where the savings account is opened or domiciled.

Pope washes the feets of 12 young offenders including two girls and two Muslims in unprecedented Easter rite

Posted on 08:45 by ranjeet
Pope Francis (R) kissing the feet of a young offender after washing them during a mass at the church of the Casal del Marmo youth prison on the outskirts of Rome as part of Holy Thursday.AFP

Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 young offenders including two girls and two Muslims at a Rome prison on Thursday in an unprecedented version of an ancient Easter ritual, seen as part of efforts to bring the Catholic Church closer to those in need.

The pope knelt down, washing and kissing the young prisoners’ feet in the first Holy Thursday ceremony of its kind performed by a pontiff in prison, and the first to include women and Muslims.

“Whoever is the most high up must be at the service of others,” Francis said at the mass in the Casal del Marmo youth prison, a fortnight after being elected Latin America’s first pope.

“I do this with all my heart because it is my duty as a priest, as a bishop. I have to be at your service. I love doing it because this is what the Lord has taught me,” the 76-year-old said.
Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said many of the participants broke down in tears at the ceremony, which was open only to Vatican media. One young man had to be replaced at the last moment because he was too overcome with emotion.

Video footage from the ceremony showed the pope pouring water over the feet — one of them with tattoos — bending down to kiss them and looking each of the 12 prisoners in the eye before moving on.

Lombardi said that while this was the first time a pope had washed women’s feet, Francis had performed this type of ceremony in his native Argentina many times before becoming pope including in jails, hospitals and old people’s homes.

The Holy Thursday ceremony is usually held in a basilica in the city centre and commemorates the gesture of humility believed to have been performed by Jesus Christ before his death to his 12 disciples at their last meal.

Popes performing the ritual have usually washed the feet of priests.
Catholic traditionalists are likely to be riled by the inclusion of women because all of Jesus’ disciples were male — the same justification used to explain why only men can be Catholic priests.

Francis has already broken with several Vatican traditions with his informal style, although he is yet to begin tackling the many problems assailing the Roman Catholic Church including reform of the scandal-ridden Vatican bureaucracy and bank.
Local prison chaplain Gaetano Greco said he hoped the ritual would be “a positive sign in the lives” of the young offenders at the prison, which has around 50 inmates aged between 14 and 21.
Earlier on Thursday, the pontiff told Catholic priests at a mass in St Peter’s Basilica to stop their “soul-searching” and “introspection”.
“We need to go out… to the outskirts where there is suffering, bloodshed, blindness that longs for sight and prisoners in thrall to many evil masters,” he said.
– Via Crucis –
The former archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was known in Argentina for his strong social advocacy during his homeland’s devastating economic crisis, his own humble lifestyle and his outreach in poor neighbourhoods.

Holy Thursday is the first of four intensive days in the Christian calendar culminating in Easter Sunday, which commemorates Christ’s resurrection.

On Friday, Francis will recite the Passion of Christ — the story of the last hours of Jesus’s life — in St Peter’s Basilica, before presiding over the Via Crucis — Way of the Cross — ceremony by the Colosseum, where thousands of Christians were believed killed in Roman times.

While a frail Benedict, now 85, presided over last year’s celebrations from under a canopy next to the Colosseum, Francis is expected to take part in the procession and even carry the wooden cross on his shoulder for part of the way.

On Saturday, the pontiff will take part in an evening Easter vigil in St Peter’s Basilica. The Vatican has not yet said whether Francis will follow the tradition of baptising eight adult converts to the Catholic Church during the service.

Having my wedding in Dubai was a spiritual decision – 2Face Idibia

Posted on 08:27 by ranjeet

2Face in an interview with SEGUN ADEBAYO revealed that the decision to hold  his wedding festivities in Dubai was a spiritual. Here are excerpts of the interview.

When Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State announced the donation of two brand new SUV Prado Jeeps, what was the first thing that came to your mind?
Honestly, I was not expecting it. I knew the governor is used to helping the downtrodden. I had also known before now that he has a noble mind but I was surprised when he made the announcement.

At first, I didn’t know what to say, because the governor really surprised us. His appearance at the traditional wedding really boosts our morale. We were so honoured to have him grace the occasion that day. It was indeed an event that would remain indelible in my mind. We never expected it because we didn’t know the governor would come to the
occasion that day. I guess everything worked together for good.

The governor also announced the donation of a cheque of 3million naira that would sponsor 20 members of your family to Dubai for the white wedding that same day.

Words cannot successfully explain the feelings that captured my mind that day. Like I said, it was just beyond what I could explain. Governor Akpabio’s heart of gold has been extended to my family and I am so grateful to the governor and the people of Akwa Ibom State for their support since that day. They have been so wonderful and they have also made it clear again that they are peace loving and accommodating people. It was an important occasion in our lives and in the lives of the people of Akwa Ibom State. It was a moment of joy for us and for the entertainment industry at large. The governor made a physical appearance and blessed the marriage. He recognised us as young couple that needs his blessing as we start our marital journey.

How do you feel about the money?
Talking about the money, it is a sign of good things to come. If the governor could support us because he loves our newly established family, it means a lot to us and we are so happy about it.

The governor knows that some family members may want to be part of the occasion, but don’t have the financial capacity. So, he donated the money so that we can cater for those people. He thought that the burden of sponsorship should not be left with us alone, so he has proved that he’s a man of the people.

What about the outcry that greeted the donation since the pronouncement was made, how did you handle that moment?
There was nothing to handle in that situation. Governor Akpabio felt that as a couple, we would need all the financial assistance we could get. So, if he decides to support us and shows us love, I don’t see why that should create any outcry. Words cannot express how grateful we are to the governor for the love and support we have received so far since the pronouncement of the wedding. But some people believe that there is more to the donations than what we are seeing, do you feel like that too? I don’t feel strangely, I am just happy and that is the most important thing. My wife is from the Akwa Ibom State and the governor of the state is like a father to her.

The governor said he was doing all these because he loves his daughter and I don’t think I should feel anyhow because a father is showering his daughter blessings. I don’t believe anybody should feel anyhow, it is a celebration mood, so everybody should be
happy.

Why the choice of Dubai and not Lagos where you have lived for a long time?
I think there is this spiritual connection to it, but I don’t want to disclose it now. Let’s just say that we love Dubai and we also discovered that it was a perfect venue for us.
Some people are of the opinion that you actually picked Dubai to control the crowd that day, what’s your take?

We thought of a perfect place for the white wedding and the idea of Dubai came up. I don’t know about crowd control. We just want to have the best of the moment and make sure things go rightly. There is nothing more to it. It does not have to do with controlling the people or anything. The fact is that you can’t run away from the people. Anywhere you go, you will meet people and these people have come to celebrate with us.

You said something about spirituality, could you shed more light on that?
I don’t want to talk about it. You guys will soon get to know, but let us keep it that way for now.

How easy was it making this decision?
It was an easy decision because that is how God wanted it to be and I can’t query that. God’s way is different from that of man. What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. We really appreciate God for His grace on our lives and we sincerely appreciate the governor too. My brother, no be small thing ooo. Let me also add this that i wish my wife will be able to borrow me the car anytime I need it ooo… because that one too is important.

Annie Idibia:
How do you feel today that the governor has redeemed his pledge to your family?
I am feeling on top of the world right now and I am so indebted to the governor for his love. I don’t know how to explain the feeling. Like my husband had said, it was an unspeakable experience that I won’t forget for many years to come.

Don’t you feel any pressure going through all these?
The only feeling is that I am feeling so excited and speechless. I am from Akwa Ibom State and I should be more than a happy woman today that I am witnessing one of the greatest moments of my life. The governor is a worthy leader and a caring father that I will always cherish. The feeling has been great and I know this feeling is nothing compared to what we will experience in Dubai. Like my husband said, he has the full access to the car anytime.

ALBUM REVIEW: Lagbaja speaks the bitter truth

Posted on 08:16 by ranjeet

Artiste- Lagbaja

Album- 200 Million Mumu (The Bitter Truth)

Label- Motherlan’ Music (2012)

Running Time- 45 minutes

 Lagbaja speaks the bitter truth

In the 90s and early 00s Lagbaja was as big as they came. His humorous and political songs made him a household name and his faceless persona made him an interesting mysterious artist. The burgeoning pop scene sinco the mid 00s might have slightly diminished Lagbaja’s influence in contemporary music, but the masked one still has the tricks to make everyone listen to his music.

His 9th studio album 200 Million Mumu (The Bitter Truth) is vintage Lagbaja. He mixes sarcasm and humour to sing about the ills of the Nigerian society. The main theme of this LP has to do with the docile and hypocritical nature of average Nigerians. On ‘200 Million Mumu (Part 1)’ Lagbaja says ‘you no different from them at all’. The ‘them’ he talks about are Nigerian leaders. According to Lagbaja the ordinary Nigerian is no different from a bad politician and Nigeria’s problem is mostly a case of bad followership.

In ‘200 Million Mumu (Part 3)’ Lagbaja turns former President Olusegun Obasanjo into a stuttering auto-tune robot talking about his failed third term bid. Lagbaja splices OBJ’s vocals to address the docile nature of Nigerians when faced with oppression.

Lagbaja has a fascination with OBJ as his vocals appear again on ‘Dust to Dust’. As the former president says that no one is as powerful as him even God, Lagbaja warns that God has the ultimate power and death will come to all. He also talks about the hypocrisy of Christians and how God is not deceived with their holier-than-thou attitude.

This album is filled with three hymns (‘Joy Cometh in the Morning’, Guide Me O Great Jehovah’ and Nipa Ife Olugbala’). The presence of these hymns on the album is puzzling at first but at the end of ‘Dust To Dust’ when Lagbaja sings ‘justice go come one day’ it all makes sense. The hymns are Lagbaja’s solution to the Nigerian problem- God. You would think Lagbaja would prefer a call to arms but he like most Nigerians looks up to God to solve the Nigerian dilemma.

Then there are some of the songs (‘Knock Knock’, ‘Redemption Song’ and ‘Omo Jayejaye’) that steer off the main theme.  ‘Omo Jayejaye’ is a combination of African drums and Electro pop. It’s a fun and celebratory song that uses the vocoder and chipmunk vocal effect.

There are a few songs that shouldn’t be covered or remixed because the original is basically flawless. Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song.

We made love the day she died – Arowolo

Posted on 08:06 by ranjeet

Akolade Arowolo, the 31-year-old man standing trial for allegedly killing his banker wife, Titilayo, on June 24, 2011 said he and the deceased kissed and had séx for two hours on the day she died.
He added that the activity signified that they (couple) had a cordial relationship before her demise.

Akolade, who said his wife died on his 30th birthday, explained that although the marriage was good, it was not without its challenges.

He said, “That day she died was my birthday. I see birthdays as a new year in one’s life and I usually pray at the early hours of that day. I prayed till 3am but was woken by my wife’s kiss. We had séx for almost two hours and it was very good as we hadn’t done such in a while.
“We later prayed and talked about how we could improve on our relationship as well as business opportunities.”

Akolade said he only slapped his wife once throughout their three-year marriage, adding that their marriage was not a violent one as alleged.

Akolade, while being led in evidence by the defence counsel, Olanrewaju Ajanaku, told an Ikeja High Court on Thursday that he met his wife at Lagos State University in 2005 while he was taking classes for a postgraduate degree.

He said they grew close and became good friends and he got her pregnant in 2008 and they got married in November that year.

He said, “We were great friends and lovers but that is not to say that we didn’t have challenges. In the course of our relationship, there were times people commended us because we knew how to counsel people.

“We were everywhere together and I took her to work on many occasions while sometimes, I would leave the car for her to take to work while I would use public transport. Our challenges were like those of many young couples. We disagreed on many things.

“For example, a few months before our daughter, Olamide, was born, we were making plans for the baby when she demanded N500, 000 to buy all necessary things. I told her I didn’t have that much on me and she should accept N100, 000 but she refused and left for her parents’ home.”
Akolade described his wife as hot-tempered adding that she always flared up whenever she could not have her way, earning her the nickname, Thatcher.

He said a few months into the marriage, he noticed that his wife’s attitude had changed and he sought advice from a friend who told him to leave the house whenever there was an argument. He said one day, his wife got him very angry and he slapped her only once.

He said, “One Friday, I went for a vigil but did not come back the following morning. I went to stay with a friend because I wanted my wife to miss me. However I started missing her and I went back home that same day. On getting home, I met a man in the house whom my wife identified as her colleague. The man left immediately after.

“I went through her phone and noticed that she had called her father, George Oyakhire, an ex-boyfriend of hers and an unidentified number. Later, I asked her why she didn’t call me when I did not come home but she said she did not have airtime. I then asked her that where did she then get airtime to call the three people I noticed on her phone.

“She flared up and said I should never go through her phone again. She then started to call her ex-boyfriend in my presence. I got angry, grabbed her phone and smashed it against the wall. She took my phone and smashed it as well, so I slapped her. She immediately left the house and went to her parents’ place.”

He said his wife was also secretive and had even confessed to having an abortion without his consent adding that the abortion later led to menstrual complications.

Akolade, who claimed to be an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, said he was not jobless as reported but was an auditor and had even worked on big government contracts.

He maintained that his wife had on numerous occasions left him to be with her parents sometimes for months.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu adjourned the matter till May 22, 2013, for further hearing, standing down the case after Akolade broke down and could not continue with his testimony.

NEWS: Senegalese woman traffics drugs for lover

Posted on 09:44 by ranjeet
                                        Kamara Oumou

A 33-year-old woman, Kamara Oumou, who was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, has said she got involved in drug trafficking because of love.

Oumou, a Senegalese, was arrested at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos while attempting to board an Arik flight to Dakar after a one-week visit to her Nigerian lover, Hakeem.
Oumou had used industrial tape to strap three parcels of cocaine weighing 515 grammes to her waist, while six wraps of heroin weighing 165 grammes were inserted into her private parts.
NDLEA airport commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said, “Oumou had in her possession a Senegalese international passport with number, 400680371.

“She was found to be in possession of 680 grammes of narcotic that tested positive for heroin and cocaine. It was carefully concealed but not intelligent enough to escape our detection.”

Oumou, however, said she was not paid money to smuggle the drugs.

She said, “How can I ask my boyfriend to pay me? I smuggled the drugs because of the love I have for Hakeem.”

Hakeem and Oumou allegedly met in Dakar where Hakeem had lived for 11 years. The couple were said to have dated for six months before Hakeem returned to Nigeria in December 2012.
It was learnt that Hakeem invited Oumou to Lagos and checked into a hotel where they spent a week together.

Oumou said her lover brought the drug to her hotel.

She said, “The day Hakeem brought the package to my hotel room was my first time of seeing drugs. He said they were products which he couldn’t entrust to his business partners because they were unfaithful. He said he was giving them to me instead to bring into Dakar because he trusted me.

“He packed the drugs and also took care of my travel arrangements. I have no idea where his home is. We were supposed to travel together to Dakar but he suddenly changed the arrangement and travelled to Dakar a day before my trip.”

NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said, “No reason is strong enough to engage in drug trafficking. Drug barons may claim to be in love with unsuspecting couriers. They may even present themselves as philanthropists. Members of the public are advised to shun such pretences.”

Policemen allegedly kill two NSCDC officers in Lagos

Posted on 08:41 by ranjeet

Items purportedly recovered at the scene.

Two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC, were allegedly killed in the early hours of yesterday, in Ikorodu area of Lagos, during a shoot-out with a police team.

The deceased identified as Assistant Inspector Gabriel Adaji and Inspector Innocent Akegbe, reportedly went on a raid around Konu area of Ikorodu in the company of five other colleagues.
Their mission, Vanguard learnt, was to effect the arrest of some pipeline vandals said to be operating on a broken pipeline.

They were said to have made some arrests, recovered some exhibits and were on their way to their office when they were accosted by a team of policemen allegedly led by one Inspector Sunday Gabriel, attached to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

How they were killed
There were, however, different accounts of how the NSCDC officers met their untimely death.
A version of the account from NSCDC sources alleged that their officers were ambushed by the team of policemen who were contacted on phone by the arrested vandals.

According to NSCDC sources, “Immediately the Police got wind of the information, they ambushed the officers and opened fire on their patrol vehicles, killing two while others ran for dear lives with gunshot wounds. The  vandals were immediately released by the policemen.

“On seeing that they were policemen,  men of the corps refused to fire a single shot but could only express shock that a sister agency which ordinarily should assist in fighting crime and other criminality were the ones aiding them while the vandals continue to flourish in crime.”

Another version of the account had it that the policemen queried the NSCDC men for invading the area at such time (3 a.m.) without informing them.

                                            Police and NSCDC

This reportedly led to a verbal confrontation as the NSCDC  officials maintained that they needed no clearance from the Police, since they were also carrying out their statutory responsibilities.

“After the raid,  as the officials were driving along the expressway, they were  first accosted by a team of Mobile Policemen. An argument ensued as one of the policemen said they had no right to operate in the area. But the NSCDC men explained that it was their duty to protect all government facilities including oil pipelines.

“After sometime, our men left but unknown to them, a team of policemen had laid ambush ahead. The policemen opened fire on our men, killing two and injuring five. The policemen then fled,” another NSCDC sources said.

Lagos Police  Command reacts
However, in a statement  by  the Lagos State Police Command and signed by its spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, the command  said: “The Lagos State Command wishes to use this medium to put the record straight on what actually transpired at Isawo-Ikorodu between the NSCDC and the Police.

“At about 0145hrs of date, there was a distress call from DM security PPMC, Mosimi that they were experiencing drop in pressure on the pipeline. The Unit Commander in charge of Konu immediately pulled out his men on Konu axis under Inspector Sunday Gabriel to proceed to the scene.

“As they were approaching, they heard sound of serious gun firing in their area of pipeline coverage and the Inspector instructed his men to proceed to that direction as it could be the activities of vandals. Upon arrival, they saw a group of Civil Defence Corps men coming out from the direction where the shooting was earlier heard. The NSCDC men challenged the Policemen who were about four in number on what their mission was in the area, saying that it was their sole responsibility (Civil Defence) to protect pipelines.

“Therefore, it was shocking that at about 0400hrs, the Civil Defence Corps Commandant called the Police Commander, Mosimi to say that he lost two of his men and their corpses have been deposited at the mortuary. Up till now, the pistol of Inspector Sunday Gabriel who was badly beaten and stabbed by the NSCDC officials including his other accoutrements are still with NSCDC.

“Subsequently, far away in Alausa, Ikeja, at about 0800hrs today (yesterday), the NSCDC officials abducted and assaulted three Policemen namely: Sgt Charles Igiebor, Cpl Ekun Julius and Cpl Okoro Charles who went for National ID card registration exercise. They also started attacking Policemen on sight in other parts of the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command immediately went on air to warn Policemen not to engage in any form of confrontation with the NSCDC officials.
“However, investigation into the matter has commenced while Lagosians are advised to maintain peace and remain calm.”

IG orders arrest  of Police team
Vanguard reliably gathered that when news of the shoot-out reached both organisations hierarchy, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko, to personally wade into the matter.

Consequently, Manko was said to have ordered the arrest of the team of policemen on duty around the area. It was also gathered that one NSCDC official who was present at the scene was  whisked alongside the policemen,to the state command headquarters, Ikeja, where investigation was said to be on going as at 3 p.m, yesterday.

NSCDC officers protest killing of colleagues
When the news filtered into the Corps office at Alausa, Ikeja, some  personnel reportedly took to the streets, attacking policemen who were oblivious of the incident.

Eye witnesses said two policemen were beaten to  stupor and dragged into the Corps’ office. At a point, a senior officer reportedly came out  and ordered his men inside.

Meanwhile, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC  Dr. Ade Abolurin, yesterday, in Abuja, charged men of the anti-vandal squad to maintain a working relationship with other security agencies in tackling the issue of vandalism and oil theft.

Abolurin in a statement signed by the corps spokesman,  Okeh Emmanuel, urged the personnel to remain resolute and dogged in their drive towards fighting the illicit act to a standstill without compromise.

According to Abolurin,”the Federal Government through the enabling Act has mandated the Corps to carry out the function of mounting surveillance, protecting critical infrastructure of government, arrest and prosecute anyone caught in the act of vandalism as well as those suspected to be collaborators.”

Noting that the corps might be facing its teething problems and challenges in terms of cooperation and assistance from some quarters, he said that should not deter them from discharging their duty.

Apparently proffering solution aimed at  preventing a reoccurrence of yesterday’s tragedy, he advised his men to liaise with any of the military formations within their localities whenever they  intended  to embark on any operation, informing that the military had agreed to collaborate and partner with the corps in stamping out vandalism, illegal bunkering and oil theft.

He further cautioned the corps personnel, particularly those attached to the Lagos command, to be law-abiding and avoid carrying out reprisal attack.

Gucci Mane jailed for alleged assault

Posted on 07:21 by ranjeet

Rapper Gucci Mane was jailed in Georgia on Wednesday for allegedly hitting a fan in the head with a champagne bottle at an Atlanta nightclub earlier this month.

Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, turned himself in to authorities late on Tuesday, according to Fulton County Sheriff's Office records.

Mane, 33, faces an aggravated assault charge after causing a "severe laceration" to the man whom he hit with a champagne bottle on March 16, according to a police report. The fan had approached Mane and tried to strike up a conversation, police said. Mane left the nightclub before police arrived.

A magistrate judge denied bond for Mane at his first court appearance on Wednesday, sheriff's spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said.

Mane did not enter a plea. His next hearing will be on April 10, Flanagan said.

Mane's attorney, Drew Findling, told Reuters he would appeal the denial of bond to a higher court. He said six witnesses interviewed by his office about what he described as a melee at the club did not pin blame on the rapper.

"None of them said Gucci had anything to do with it," Findling said.

The incident is the latest in a long string of legal troubles for the rapper, who has appeared in remixes with the Black Eyed Peas and Usher.

In 2001, Mane was arrested for cocaine possession and spent 90 days in jail. He served a six-month prison term in 2005 for assault, and in 2009 was imprisoned for a year for violating probation in that case.

A Georgia judge sentenced Mane to six months in jail in 2011 after he admitted to pushing a woman out of his car.

Kanye West to call new single 'I am God'

Posted on 06:56 by ranjeet

Kanye West's new single will allegedly be called 'I Am A God' and a friend of the star's says he doesn't mean the title to be 'presumptuous or sacrilegious'.

The controversial rapper's next album was originally rumoured to be given the holy moniker 'I Am God', but a source has now revealed it is actually the title of his next single and insisted there would be an extra 'A' in the name.

The insider confirmed the title to the Huffington Post, before adding: 'We would never be so presumptuous or sacrilegious to call ourselves the supreme being.'

The Biblical-inspired track is thought to be a reference to Psalm 82, which details the idea that all people are manifestations of higher beings.

The Psalm words include: 'I said, 'You are gods/ And all of you are children of the Most High./ But you shall die like men/ And fall like one of the princes.'

Kanye's songwriter Malik Yusef appears to have confirmed the news in a tweet to Team Kanye Daily.

He posted: '@TeamKanyeChi its 'I am(A) GOD' FAMO #psalms 82 (sic)'

The 35-year-old singer is famed for his strong sense of self-worth and recently launched into an onstage rant, saying he had the power to create a 'utopia' and change the music industry.

'We need the music business to be evened out and fair. I've never won a Grammy against a white artist. I'm motherfing Kanye West, we can create a human utopia if we try,' he said.

I’ve never met second girl that took pix of me in bed – Davido

Posted on 05:37 by ranjeet
                                          I don't know her - Davido

In December last year, Dami duro crooner Davido was enveloped in a second lady-in-bed photo scandal with an unnamed girl after the first one involving girl friend Sonia went viral in March while holidaying in  Ghana.

Davido has kept mum on the matter until now when he tells former Big Brother Africa house mate Ebuka Obi Uchendu  hosts of TV programme Rubbing Minds that he never knew this girl.
“I was asleep in bed. The girl just snuck in and (makes gesture of taking photograph) I don’t know her. I used to stay in an apartment back then and movement was kind of free. Maybe I didn’t lock the door and she just snuck in and took the pix. I have  however moved to my new home where there is much tighter security.

I didn’t realise what was going on even after the pix was posted online. I traveled to Ghana immediately afterwards and I noticed on the plane people were just staring at me and I wondered why. Since it was a flight my phone was switched off  and so I had no idea what was happening online.

When I got to Ghana, I still got the same stare from people. I was asked by friends to switch on my phone and that was it. 300 calls from Dad, 600 calls from grandma, everyone one asking Davido what’s going on.”

Davido claims the girl in question later called his ‘people’ to apologies but then the damage had already been done. He hopes such incidences never occur again as he maintains his resilience to finish his studies, face his music business and continue to be a role model to others.

Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Artists 2013 - Sean “Diddy” Combs’ reign as hip-hop's wealthiest mogul continues

Posted on 05:05 by ranjeet

Sean “Diddy” Combs rose to mainstream fame in the late 1990s rapping about his desire for Benjamins, otherwise known as $100 bills. A decade and a half later, he might need to consider some larger denominations—McKinleys, Clevelands and Madisons, perhaps—to express his wealth.

Diddy ranks No. 1 on this year’s Forbes Five, our list of hip-hop’s wealthiest artists, with an estimated net worth of $580 million. The bulk of the Bad Boy Records founder’s wealth comes from non-musical ventures, namely his deal with Diageo’s Ciroc. The agreement entitles him to eight-figure annual payouts and a nine-figure windfall if the brand is ever sold—and Ciroc’s value has never been higher.

“It is one of the fastest-growing brands within vodka,” says Jack Russo, an equity analyst at Edward Jones & Co. “Consumers are feeling a little bit better about their situation, and with that, they’re willing to spend more on premium products.”

The No. 2 spot goes to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, with a net worth of $475 million. He’s still rolling in cash from megadeals like his $204 million Rocawear sale in 2007 and his $150 million pact with Live Nation the following year. He continues to hold stakes in Roc Nation, Carol’s Daughter, the Brooklyn Nets—and, more significantly, the Barclays Center itself—while adding new partnerships with the likes of Duracell, Budweiser and Bacardi’s D’ussé Cognac. (For more on his rise as a businessman, check out “Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went From Street Corner To Corner Office”).

Andre “Dr. Dre” Young ranks No. 3with $350 million, thanks mostly to his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. A year after selling 51% of the company to handset maker HTC for $300 million in August 2011, Dre and his partners bought back half of the half they sold in 2012—and their investment continues to soar in value due to Beats’ whopping 65% market share of the premium ($99 and up) headphone market.

Bryan “Birdman” Williams owns the No. 4 spot, riding his Cash Money/Young Money empire to a fortune of $150 million. His roster includes Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne (the latter crossed the $100 million threshold for the first time this year, by our estimates, but remains just outside the top five). Birdman also recently launched a YMCMB clothing line and a spirit called GT Vodka.

“We have to build different brands,” he told FORBES last month. “That’s what it’s all about.”

Rounding out the list is at No.5 Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson at $125 million.

He’s another master of brand building: The bulk of his fortune came from heavy sales of his music, merchandise, video games and books in the wake of his smash debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’—and particularly from his payout for the sale of his stake in VitaminWater parent Glacéau to Coca-Cola in 2007.

Now he’s trying to replicate that feat with companies like SMS Audio, his answer to Dr. Dre’s Beats, and SK Energy, which has its sights set on category leader 5-Hour Energy. When informed that his net worth would be estimated at a little over $100 million this year, 50 Cent said simply, “That’s cool.” After being asked to elaborate, though, he changed his tune slightly.

“Oh, you want me to tell you an exact number?” he said with a grin. “I’ve got way more.”

If his new ventures continue to grow, 50 Cent’s number on this list should begin to reflect that belief as soon as next year.

As for Diddy, he may need to stick to Benjamins after all. According to a recent tally, there were only 165,372 $1,000 bills still in use—not even enough to cover one-third of Diddy’s fortune
